Past permanent exhibition

To commemorate the release of director Yoshihiro Sakamoto's new film, we will be exhibiting valuable materials related to the production of his debut film, "Mashiro no Koi," his sequel, "House of Fir Trees," and his latest work, "Bridge of Ignorance."
We will take you behind the scenes of the filmmaking process of director Yoshihiro Sakamoto, whose works are set in his hometown of Toyama.

Of course, I know about Toyama's magnificent nature and beautiful scenery, but my focus is on the locals.
The reason for this is that we place importance on depicting the warmth and human relationships that abound there.
To portray the delicate human relationships that rival the powerful landscape, we chose a place where you can feel the warmth of the local people.
I think that making these choices is a way of portraying Toyama that only I can do.

Director Yoshihiro Sakamoto Profile

Born in Toyama City in 1986, while attending university, he served as a scriptwriter on the play works jury, a project run by film director Shunji Iwai. He subsequently worked as an assistant director under directors Mori Togashi and Miho O. In 2011, he founded a video production company and has been working on films and commercials. His directorial debut, the feature film "Mashiro no Koi" (2017), meticulously portrayed the protagonist's innocent romantic feelings against the beautiful scenery of Toyama Prefecture. It won the New Directors Grand Prix at the 32nd Takasaki Film Festival, the Audience Award out of 1,700 films in the International Competition at the 12th Nara International Film Festival 2016, and the Grand Prix in the feature film category at the Fukui Film Festival 11th, capturing the hearts of film festivals and movie fans across Japan. His follow-up, "House of Fir Trees" (2020), was also shot entirely on location in Toyama Prefecture. Filmed over the course of a year, the story depicts the emotional growth of a young girl. Her latest work, "The Bridge of Ignorance," has been screened nationwide since December last year. The film is based on the Nunobashi Kanjoe, a women's salvation ceremony held once every three years on Mount Tateyama, and depicts the protagonist, deeply wounded by the loss of her daughter, recovering and taking a new step forward.
