Akira Yoshimura (1927-2006, born in Arakawa Ward, Tokyo) pursued facts backed by thorough research using a vast amount of materials, bringing new achievements to documentary and historical literature, earning high praise and gaining many readers who love novels.
In his 1967 novel "High-Temperature Tunnel," Yoshimura depicted the arduous construction of the railway tunnel from Keyakidaira Station to the Kurobe River No. 42 Power Plant of Nippon Electric Power Company. The bedrock was over 160 degrees Celsius, there were snow avalanches that blew away the dormitories, and the boardwalks were so dangerous that one misstep could be instantly fatal. "High-Temperature Tunnel" unfolds a fierce battle against nature and a compelling human drama.
A new tourist attraction is being created in Kurobe, a region that still retains its natural beauty. It's the Kurobe-Unazuki Canyon Route, a new route stretching approximately 18 kilometers from Keyakidaira in the Kurobe Gorge to the Kurobe Dam.
This exhibition focuses on "High-Temperature Tunnel" to commemorate the opening of the Kurobe-Unazuki Canyon Route. We will also introduce the charm of the world of historical novels and documentary literature based on thorough research by Akira Yoshimura, whose 100th birthday is being celebrated, and his commitment to historical facts.
