Course content

It is known that Kenji Miyazawa also had a side as a geologist, and geological terms often appear in his works. His fairy tale "The Oak Tree Scholar's Camping Trip" was written with a background in volcanology and mineralogy, and even features dinosaurs. However, it is strange that Jurassic dinosaurs appear on a Cretaceous coast. Exploring the background of this mystery reveals clues to how the latest geological information was received and disseminated in Japan during Miyazawa's time (100 years ago). We will unravel the history of geology through Miyazawa's works.
