Koshi no Kuni Literature Museum Director Shigeru Muroi

The Koshi no Kuni Literature Museum is a literary museum for the citizens of the prefecture, which was reborn as the former governor's official residence with the image of "Kura and earthen floor" and "Kainyo".

Ten years after its opening. With the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, I feel that the lifestyles of the residents of the prefecture and cultural exchanges with other prefectures have changed.

I have been working as an actor, essayist, and picture book author in Tokyo for many years, but my heart is always in my hometown.

On the train that changes its model with the changing times, read books and scripts related to work on the way back, folk tales and history books found in Toyama, books on the mystery of the mountains and the sea, medicine, animals, and cooking books on the way back. I enjoyed myself along the way.

Seen from the outside, Toyama is rich and supple, and it's a very stimulating place.

This time, I respectfully accepted the role of the second director of the Literature Museum in Toyama, which I love so much.

My role is to enliven the museum so that as many people as possible can visit. To that end, I believe that the first priority is to find out what kind of literary and artistic works you feel that you want to "experience and delve into" on a daily basis, and to make it possible for you to see them in a better way.

We will do our best to make Toyama an oasis of the heart and a place of learning for the citizens of the prefecture, and to make it even more of a “famous spot in Toyama” for those outside the prefecture.

From adults to small children, we are looking forward to seeing you.

Greetings from the first director

Koshi no Kuni Literature Museum First Director Susumu Nakanishi

On July 24, 7, Toyama Prefecture's Koshinokuni Museum of Literature opened.

The museum's name, "Koshi no Kuni," comes from the fact that the entire Hokuriku area was called the country of Koshi in ancient times.Toyama Prefecture has been called Etchu even within this country of Koshi, so I would like to further deepen cooperation with neighboring prefectures, broaden the scope of the Koshi region, and honor the culture.

The expression "Takashi" appears in the "Kojiki" (Records of Ancient Matters). At the same time that the Honkan respects that tradition, I hope that even today, all citizens of the prefecture will share the high aspirations of this notation.

The main building is trying to collect and exhibit literary materials related to Koshi no Kuni, but the main purpose is to regain the true communication of the heart from the literature of people related to the hometown, considering that the language has recently become impoverished, disordered, and frivolous, and it is not possible to express the heart correctly.

In the process of choosing words correctly, we can also seek the true state of mind and become aware of our pride as human beings.

I have a burning desire to learn the right way of life through literature.

Therefore, we hope to be a literature museum that treats literature broadly as part of culture, regardless of genre.

For example, director Masahiro Shinoda, one of the advisors of the main building, insists that he wants to make films in Japanese language. In that way, images are also a word.

Fortunately, Toyama Prefecture has produced many artists such as Zene Hotta, and there are countless artists with whom we have a deep connection, such as Shiko Munakata.

At the main building, we hope that the citizens of the prefecture will learn from these testimonies of their hometowns, and at the same time, we hope that many people from inside and outside Japan will visit us to help them learn how to live.

Overview of the museum

Toyama Prefecture is a place related to Etchu Manyo, where the Manyo poet Otomo Yakamochi composed 223 poems. In addition to producing writers such as Zene Hotta, Keita Genji, and Genyoshi Kadokawa, Toyama also produced Teru Miyamoto's "Hotarugawa", Hyozo Kashiwabara's "Long Road", Jiro Nitta's "Mt. There are also many literary works set inIn addition, Toyama produced Yojiro Takita, Katsuhide Motoki, and Mamoru Hosoda in movies, as well as Fujiko Fujio Ⓐ and Fujiko F. Fujio in manga.

The Koshi no Kuni Literature Museum has been opened as a place to widely disseminate the appeal of these writers and works related to Toyama Prefecture, and to be a place where anyone can easily become familiar with and learn about "hometown literature" and stimulate new creations.

Basic Principles of the Koshi no Kuni Museum of Literature

  • A general window for hometown literature that introduces writers and works related to Toyama Prefecture in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Providing opportunities to casually enjoy and learn not only literary works but also works in a wide range of fields such as picture books, movies, manga, and animation.
  • Providing a place that stimulates deep exploration, creation, and presentation
